National Magnet Award

Nathan Hale Arts Magnet School has been named a National Magnet School of Excellence by Magnet Schools of America, the national association for magnet and theme-based schools. Through a rigorous, integrated approach to education, NHAMS develops creative and dedicated learners who learn in, through, and about the arts.   School principal, Carlos X. Leal, stated, “This award and recognition is a testament to the amazing staff, families, and students at our school.  We are dedicated in a collective effort to ensure that all of our students experience the best possible education and have access to an immense world of opportunities in the arts and beyond.”

Vision Statement
We aspire to serve as Southeastern Connecticut’s premiere K-5 arts magnet school: a diverse community of creative and confident scholars dedicated to artistic and academic achievement.

Mission Statement
We are a kind and caring community where students, families, staff, and community members feel welcomed, safe, and valued. Through collaborative relationships, NHAMS builds a positive and diverse school climate. We foster an expressive and creative environment, which empowers students’ learning and growth, where students and staff are motivated, engaged, and self-directed learners.  Within our school, we serve as role models, recognizing our contributions and responsibilities to our community at large.

It is an honor to welcome everyone to the start of the 2018-19 school year and share in our excitement for new members to our community.  This year, we have families from over 20 cities and towns across southeastern Connecticut, representation from 8 different countries of origin.  Inclusive of 12% English Language Learners and 13% Special Education students, the diversity of our differences and appreciation for the arts as the means by which to keep our students engaged will only makes us stronger.  Thank you for choosing Nathan Hale Arts Magnet School!
