Curriculum

As an arts magnet school, our curriculum and instruction is always aligned to the Connecticut Core State Standards.  These are the same academic standards targeted by every public school in the state of Connecticut.  These standards address core academic subjects including reading, writing, math, language, speaking and listening.  Additionally, we focus on the standards outlined in the Next Generation Science Standards and the Connecticut Social Studies Frameworks.

What makes Nathan Hale Arts Magnet School unique is that we integrate the above mentioned standards with the National Core Arts Standards.  The National Core Arts Standards, adopted by Connecticut in the fall of 2016, outline 5 artistic disciplines for our students.  These disciplines include Musical Art, Visual Art, Theatre Art, Dance Art, and Media Art.  Nathan Hale Arts Magnet School offers essential classes in each of these disciplines, while also working to integrate these arts into the general education setting.

The curriculum of an arts magnet school is responsive to the needs, interests, and talents of our students.  It is grounded in standards and best practices for instruction, while also adjusting and expanding to engage all of our students in artistic exploration.  For more information on the standards addressed at Nathan Hale Arts Magnet School, please explore the links below.  Teachers, staff, and students are always eager to discuss the unique units, projects, and courses offered at our school.
